Getting to NYC or Parnassos
Given our two main locations/venues – NYC Kalithea and Parnassos Literary Society, Syntagma, central Athens – our advice would be to find places to stay within the central Athens’ neighbourhoods of Monastiraki, Plaka, Syntagma, Psirri/Gazi or Omonia.
The central location offers on the one hand the option of a short direct Metro (M1) ride from central Athens stations like Thiseio (M1 takes 4’) Monastiraki (M1 takes 5’), Omonia (M1takes 8’) or Syntagma (M3 takes 13’ as line change needed) to Tavros Metro station which is a few hundred meters form NYC Kalithea.
And on the other hand these neighbourhoods offer walking distances of between ca. 5′ to 20’ to the Parnassos Literary Society, depending, obviously, on the exact location. Furthermore it is the area of restaurant and bar activity, closeness to many sights and museums and of course there are splendid views of the Acropolis too.
In any case, wherever you prefer to stay, we would advise you to make reservations as soon as possible as Athen’s hotels can get booked up quickly towards the end of the year.
Hotel options
Besides a lot of different 1 to 4 star hotel options, for the budget conscious travellers it may be worth exploring some central dormitories, which, if organised in advance, could then maybe mainly shared by participants.
There are also of course airbnb apartment options which could also be shared by
several Summer School people e.g. Hermes Historical Center apartment.

You could also use a more public approach and use the ESS Facebook page or the ESS Community Group to signal interest in sharing rooms in general.
Please note: Below is a mixed selection of places – Hostels and 1-star to 4-star hotels – which may be useful as a starting point. These are not recommendations as such as we could not visit all of them. There are many more accommodation options in the central Athens’ neighbourhoods or elsewhere. Usually all the places do offer standard rooms ensuite, but some may also have (cheaper) rooms with shared bathroom. Some may offer no breakfast options. Please check.

This is the ESS Teacher hotel. They have single, double/twin, triple and quadruple room options. It has good location with short walks to Metro station Monastiraki (7’) and Parnassos Hall (8’). The best conditions (according to the hotel) is reserving rooms the ‘boooking.com’ website.
