Ramon Humet started studying shakuhachi in 2004 with Horacio Curti. He continues the in-depth study of the koten honkyoku repertoire with Kakizakai Kaoru sensei. He is also interested in contemporary music for shakuhachi, and gives concerts with the pianist Sílvia Vidal, where they bring together the traditional repertoire for shakuhachi, the classical repertoire for piano, and contemporary music for shakuhachi and piano.
In 2017 he composed Music for Ekstasis, a lost solo by Martha Graham reimagined by Virginie Mécène and premiered by the Martha Graham Dance Company at the Joyce Theater in New York, and from which the legendary photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto has created the video Breathing, produced by Opéra de Paris, with
Kakizakai Kaoru on the shakuhachi, and Aurélie Dupont on the dance.
Recently he has premiered Desert, a concert for shakuhachi and symphony orchestra vcommissioned by the Spanish National Orchestra to celebrate the bicentennial of thePrado Museum, with Paolo Bressan conducting and Horacio Curti as soloist. This
work has been recorded by the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and the National Orchestra of Catalonia.
His compositions have been premiered by the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the London Sinfonietta, the Latvian Radio Choir, Bühnen Halle Oper or the Spanish National Orchestra, among others. He also teaches composition for all kinds of instrumental and vocal formations, including composition for shakuhachi. He has published Silence in the Universal Edition publishing house (Vienna), an album of easy pieces in honkyoku style for shakuhachi beginners.
